Bio
DOB: Oct 4, 1952
I was born in New York and spent my formative years in Massapequa, an unincorporated
village on the south shore of Long Island (also the home of Jerry Seinfeld, the Baldwin
brothers, and, yes, Joey Buttafuoco.) I was graduated from Princeton University in 1974
with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, which basically meant many sleepless
nights in the
library.
After getting out of school, I moved to Houston, where I began working for a large
corporation...the one with the "XX" in its name. Met and fell in love with a
Texan...from Fort Worth, no less. Donna and I married in 1977, then moved to New Jersey in
1979, where our first child, Melissa, was born later that same year.
We migrated to Atlanta in 1981 and were blessed with another daughter, Jocelyn, the
following year. After five years in the Heart of the Deep South, we moved to Glastonbury,
CT...and two years later, to Trumbull, CT. In early 1991, we moved yet again, this time
back to Houston. In July 1998 we left Houston to return to Atlanta. If a rolling stone
gathers no moss, then our
family is definitely "moss-less."
I'm currently functioning as an account representative: a glorified salesman, selling 250
million pounds of polyethylene and polypropylene plastic a year. Donna teaches kids
with learning differences (e.g., dyslexia). Melissa is a student at Boston University, and
Jocelyn is starting her junior year in high school as of this writing.
I'm a voracious reader. In addition to a big chunk of the Orson Scott Card oeuvre, I like
other SF writers: Octavia Butler, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clark, Philip K. Dick, David
Brin, Gregory Benford, Greg Bear, Cyril Kornbluth, Fred Pohl, Larry Niven, Harlan Ellison,
just to name a few. Oh yeah, and mainstreamers like Tom Clancy, Scott Turow...Shakespeare,
Huxley,
the list goes on forever. And I'm a big fan of humorous poetry: Ogden Nash, Franklin
Adams, Hilaire Bellocq, Morris Bishop, don marquis, lots more. I'm on my second book of
the week now...
As for my screen name, no, it has nought to do with Harlan E. My dad's name is Eli, and
I'm the elder of two sons. So: Eli's Son 1 - Elisson1. Hoo-hah.
